What do we do?
Newlands Local Enterprise Limited raises awareness and encourages enterprise and entrepreneurship in the community, by providing a mechanism to engage excluded groups into the labour market, raise skill levels and increase the chance of future employability.
NLEL identifies, promotes and supports the development of social enterprises that provide local services and jobs that offer the opportunity for practical participation in the process of regeneration.
NLEL supports social enterprises already established in the community and helps to develop new social enterprises that are owned and controlled by the community, in the community they are serving and for the benefit of that community. The primary role is to assist social enterprises capable of becoming sustainable beyond the life of grant funding.
The social enterprises have social objectives whose surpluses are reinvested in the business or in the community. They tackle a wide range of social and environmental issues and operate in all parts of the economy.
NLEL raises awareness of social enterprise, raises the profile and spreads understanding, information and best practice and gains access to networks that are in support of social enterprise.
NLEL supports and assists the start up and development of social enterprises and with continued support, monitoring and guidance, enables them to run successful enterprises that are able to compete in the competitive market.
